About Gb7

Gb7 is built from four notes: Gb (root), Bb (major third), Db (perfect fifth) and Fb (minor seventh). Its interval formula is 1 – 3 – 5 – b7. It is a dominant seventh chord: a major chord plus a minor seventh, which gives it the characteristic tension of blues and jazz.

On guitar, Gb7 has 4 common shapes: the E, D, C and A shapes. These are CAGED system shapes, the basis for playing the same chord anywhere on the neck. The viewer also shows 37 more voicings, from easiest to hardest. Gb7 is also written as F#7: the same chord with the root spelled differently, and it sounds identical. The more common spelling is F#7.
