About D#7

The notes of D#7 are D# (root), F## (major third), A# (perfect fifth) and C# (minor seventh). In scale degrees above the root, the formula is 1 – 3 – 5 – b7. The minor seventh adds a tension that asks to resolve, which is why it is the typical chord on the fifth degree of a key.

D#7 has 4 common voicings, based on the D, C, A and G shapes of the CAGED system. There are 32 more voicings sorted by difficulty; use the viewer switches to add inversions and stretches. Another way to write D#7 is Eb7 (the same piano key, with a different name). The usual choice is Eb7.
