About A# diminished
A# diminished is built from three notes: A# (root), C# (minor third) and E (diminished fifth). In scale degrees above the root, the formula is 1 – b3 – b5. It is a diminished chord: it stacks two minor thirds, sounds tense and unstable, and usually resolves to another chord.
A# diminished has no standard open shape in the CAGED system, so its 11 voicings are sorted only by difficulty and position on the neck. A# diminished is also written as Bb diminished: the same chord with the root spelled differently, and it sounds identical. The more common spelling is Bb diminished.
