About Absus4

The notes of Absus4 are Ab (root), Db (perfect fourth) and Eb (perfect fifth). In scale degrees above the root, the formula is 1 – 4 – 5. With no third, the perfect fourth asks to resolve; it is very common right before the major or minor chord on the same root.

Absus4 has no standard open shape in the CAGED system, so its 23 voicings are sorted only by difficulty and position on the neck. Another way to write Absus4 is G#sus4 (the same piano key, with a different name). Absus4 is the usual choice.
