About G# augmented

The G# augmented chord is made up of G# (root), B# (major third) and D## (augmented fifth). In scale degrees above the root, the formula is 1 – 3 – #5. It is an augmented chord: it stacks two major thirds and sounds ambiguous and suspended, as if it wants to resolve.

G# augmented has no standard open shape in the CAGED system, so its 28 voicings are sorted only by difficulty and position on the neck. Another way to write G# augmented is Ab augmented (the same piano key, with a different name). The usual choice is Ab augmented.
