About Gbmaj7

Gbmaj7 is built from four notes: Gb (root), Bb (major third), Db (perfect fifth) and F (major seventh). In scale degrees above the root, the formula is 1 – 3 – 5 – 7. It is a major seventh chord: it sounds smooth, elegant and a little dreamy, and it is widely used in jazz, bossa nova and pop.

Gbmaj7 has 4 common voicings, based on the E, D, C and A shapes of the CAGED system. There are 16 more voicings sorted by difficulty; use the viewer switches to add inversions and stretches. Another way to write Gbmaj7 is F#maj7 (the same piano key, with a different name). The usual choice is F#maj7.
