About Gbm7

Gbm7 is built from four notes: Gb (root), Bbb (minor third), Db (perfect fifth) and Fb (minor seventh). In scale degrees above the root, the formula is 1 – b3 – 5 – b7. The minor seventh softens the sadness of the minor chord and gives it a relaxed color, common in soul, funk and jazz.

On guitar, Gbm7 has 3 common shapes: the E, D and A shapes. These are CAGED system shapes, the basis for playing the same chord anywhere on the neck. There are 40 more voicings sorted by difficulty; use the viewer switches to add inversions and stretches. Gbm7 is also written as F#m7: the same chord with the root spelled differently, and it sounds identical. The more common spelling is F#m7.
