About Gb augmented
Gb augmented is built from three notes: Gb (root), Bb (major third) and D (augmented fifth). In scale degrees above the root, the formula is 1 – 3 – #5. Its augmented fifth gives it a restless, mysterious sound, and because it is symmetrical the same chord repeats every four semitones.
Gb augmented has no standard open shape in the CAGED system, so its 26 voicings are sorted only by difficulty and position on the neck. Another way to write Gb augmented is F# augmented (the same piano key, with a different name). The usual choice is F# augmented.
