About Gbadd9

Gbadd9 is built from four notes: Gb (root), Bb (major third), Db (perfect fifth) and Ab (ninth). Its interval formula is 1 – 3 – 5 – 9. It is an added-ninth chord: the major chord plus the ninth (the second, an octave higher) with no seventh, and it sounds wide and bright.

Gbadd9 has no standard open shape in the CAGED system, so its 17 voicings are sorted only by difficulty and position on the neck. Another way to write Gbadd9 is F#add9 (the same piano key, with a different name). The usual choice is F#add9.
