The notes of Gadd9 are G (root), B (major third), D (perfect fifth) and A (ninth). In scale degrees above the root, the formula is 1 – 3 – 5 – 9. It is an added-ninth chord: the major chord plus the ninth (the second, an octave higher) with no seventh, and it sounds wide and bright.
