About G7

The notes of G7 are G (root), B (major third), D (perfect fifth) and F (minor seventh). In scale degrees above the root, the formula is 1 – 3 – 5 – b7. It is a dominant seventh chord: a major chord plus a minor seventh, which gives it the characteristic tension of blues and jazz.
