About Fm7

Fm7 is built from four notes: F (root), Ab (minor third), C (perfect fifth) and Eb (minor seventh). In scale degrees above the root, the formula is 1 – b3 – 5 – b7. The minor seventh softens the sadness of the minor chord and gives it a relaxed color, common in soul, funk and jazz.

On guitar, Fm7 has 3 common shapes: the E, D and A shapes. These are CAGED system shapes, the basis for playing the same chord anywhere on the neck. There are 21 more voicings sorted by difficulty; use the viewer switches to add inversions and stretches.
