Eb augmented is built from three notes: Eb (root), G (major third) and B (augmented fifth). Its interval formula is 1 – 3 – #5. Its augmented fifth gives it a restless, mysterious sound, and because it is symmetrical the same chord repeats every four semitones.
Eb augmented has no standard open shape in the CAGED system, so its 39 voicings are sorted only by difficulty and position on the neck. Eb augmented is also written as D# augmented: the same chord with the root spelled differently, and it sounds identical. The more common spelling is Eb augmented.
