About Ebadd9

Ebadd9 is built from four notes: Eb (root), G (major third), Bb (perfect fifth) and F (ninth). In scale degrees above the root, the formula is 1 – 3 – 5 – 9. The added ninth gives the major chord an open, modern color, widely used in pop and rock.

Ebadd9 has no standard open shape in the CAGED system, so its 36 voicings are sorted only by difficulty and position on the neck. Ebadd9 is also written as D#add9: the same chord with the root spelled differently, and it sounds identical. The more common spelling is Ebadd9.
