About E diminished
The notes of E diminished are E (root), G (minor third) and Bb (diminished fifth). In scale degrees above the root, the formula is 1 – b3 – b5. It is a diminished chord: it stacks two minor thirds, sounds tense and unstable, and usually resolves to another chord.
E diminished has no standard open shape in the CAGED system, so its 32 voicings are sorted only by difficulty and position on the neck.
