About D minor

D minor is built from three notes: D (root), F (minor third) and A (perfect fifth). In scale degrees above the root, the formula is 1 – b3 – 5. The minor third makes it sound sad and introspective, and it is the usual counterpart of the major chord.

On guitar, D minor has 3 common shapes: the D, A and E shapes. These are CAGED system shapes, the basis for playing the same chord anywhere on the neck. There are 31 more voicings sorted by difficulty; use the viewer switches to add inversions and stretches.
