About Dmaj7

Dmaj7 is built from four notes: D (root), F# (major third), A (perfect fifth) and C# (major seventh). Its interval formula is 1 – 3 – 5 – 7. It is a major seventh chord: it sounds smooth, elegant and a little dreamy, and it is widely used in jazz, bossa nova and pop.

On guitar, Dmaj7 has 4 common shapes: the D, C, A and E shapes. These are CAGED system shapes, the basis for playing the same chord anywhere on the neck. The viewer also shows 34 more voicings, from easiest to hardest.
