About D diminished
D diminished is built from three notes: D (root), F (minor third) and Ab (diminished fifth). Its interval formula is 1 – b3 – b5. It is a diminished chord: it stacks two minor thirds, sounds tense and unstable, and usually resolves to another chord.
D diminished has no standard open shape in the CAGED system, so its 19 voicings are sorted only by difficulty and position on the neck.
