About C#add9

C#add9 is built from four notes: C# (root), E# (major third), G# (perfect fifth) and D# (ninth). In scale degrees above the root, the formula is 1 – 3 – 5 – 9. The added ninth gives the major chord an open, modern color, widely used in pop and rock.

C#add9 has no standard open shape in the CAGED system, so its 26 voicings are sorted only by difficulty and position on the neck. C#add9 is also written as Dbadd9: the same chord with the root spelled differently, and it sounds identical. The more common spelling is Dbadd9.
