About Cmaj7

The Cmaj7 chord is made up of C (root), E (major third), G (perfect fifth) and B (major seventh). In scale degrees above the root, the formula is 1 – 3 – 5 – 7. Its major seventh gives it a sophisticated, stable color, without the tension of the dominant seventh chord.

On guitar, Cmaj7 has 4 common shapes: the C, A, E and D shapes. These are CAGED system shapes, the basis for playing the same chord anywhere on the neck. There are 65 more voicings sorted by difficulty; use the viewer switches to add inversions and stretches.
