About C7

The C7 chord is made up of C (root), E (major third), G (perfect fifth) and Bb (minor seventh). In scale degrees above the root, the formula is 1 – 3 – 5 – b7. It is a dominant seventh chord: a major chord plus a minor seventh, which gives it the characteristic tension of blues and jazz.

C7 has 5 common voicings, based on the C, A, G, E and D shapes of the CAGED system. There are 45 more voicings sorted by difficulty; use the viewer switches to add inversions and stretches.
