About Bm7

Bm7 is built from four notes: B (root), D (minor third), F# (perfect fifth) and A (minor seventh). Its interval formula is 1 – b3 – 5 – b7. The minor seventh softens the sadness of the minor chord and gives it a relaxed color, common in soul, funk and jazz.

On guitar, Bm7 has 3 common shapes: the A, E and D shapes. These are CAGED system shapes, the basis for playing the same chord anywhere on the neck. The viewer also shows 69 more voicings, from easiest to hardest.
