About A#add9

A#add9 is built from four notes: A# (root), C## (major third), E# (perfect fifth) and B# (ninth). In scale degrees above the root, the formula is 1 – 3 – 5 – 9. The added ninth gives the major chord an open, modern color, widely used in pop and rock.

A#add9 has no standard open shape in the CAGED system, so its 42 voicings are sorted only by difficulty and position on the neck. Another way to write A#add9 is Bbadd9 (the same piano key, with a different name). The usual choice is Bbadd9.
