About Am7
The Am7 chord is made up of A (root), C (minor third), E (perfect fifth) and G (minor seventh). In scale degrees above the root, the formula is 1 – b3 – 5 – b7. It is a minor seventh chord: it keeps the melancholy of the minor chord, but softer and closer to jazz.
On guitar, Am7 has 3 common shapes: the A, E and D shapes. These are CAGED system shapes, the basis for playing the same chord anywhere on the neck. There are 74 more voicings sorted by difficulty; use the viewer switches to add inversions and stretches.
