About A7

The A7 chord is made up of A (root), C# (major third), E (perfect fifth) and G (minor seventh). Its interval formula is 1 – 3 – 5 – b7. The minor seventh adds a tension that asks to resolve, which is why it is the typical chord on the fifth degree of a key.

On guitar, A7 has 5 common shapes: the A, G, E, D and C shapes. These are CAGED system shapes, the basis for playing the same chord anywhere on the neck. The viewer also shows 81 more voicings, from easiest to hardest.
